The Evolution of 2D Rendering in Age of Empires

This presentation is a technical retrospective and deep dive into the rendering techniques and technologies used in Age of Empires (1997), Age of Kings (1999), and their modern re-releases: Age of Kings: HD Edition (2103), and Age of Empires: Definitive Edition (2018) and will cover the various ways they were evolved and updated while keeping the ‘look and feel’ of, and even compatibility with the original games.  The presentation will also get into the more generic issues and challenges faced in remastering and updating other games from that era.
